Product Details
There’s something really appealing about these little Braun alarm clocks that doesn’t make sense on the surface. They’re cheap and simple, but they’re also well-constructed and wonderfully designed. It’s the cheapest ticket to iconic design from Dietrich Lubs. Back in the 80s, when these clocks were first designed, I had one—it felt like something special. This was, of course, before our phones became our alarms and when you didn’t really trust the mysterious hotel clock. And even now, it still has its place. They’re small, still useful, and definitely worth packing in your bag. Plus, they’re a great piece of German design.
Slightly larger than the BC02 but still compact and lightweight, the BC05 has a folding lid with a world time zone map—a throwback to pre-smartphone days, when a map like this was part useful and part fantasy, making you feel like an international jet setter with friends in several time zones. With its easy-to-read dial and the iconic yellow second hand—something Braun’s been known for for years—this clock is timeless. Based on the AB 1 from the late 80s and updated with an improved movement and luminous-tipped hands, it’s easy to read day or night. It also includes a snooze and light function, a quiet quartz movement, and a progressive volume alarm. And, of course, that 80s-style folding lid with the world map.
